Foreword

I’m about to start reviewing a weight-loss app, while not being entirely convinced that my goal is weight loss particularly. There’s a (pardon the pun) gut reaction I get when I hear people talking about ‘weight loss’, especially if it’s with the inference that it’s always a positive thing, or that everyone’s problems would be solved if they just had the decency to take up less space.

My possibly not very popular opinion is that a load of us have unhealthy habits for a whole load of reasons other than things like greed or laziness, those being what fatter people get accused of. With our modern lifestyles and long hours of work it’s harder to move as much as our bodies would probably like to, and with majorly irresponsible capitalism it’s harder for us to feed ourselves as healthily as our bodies would like us to. Throw in poverty, throw in racism, throw in ableism, throw in any other number of factors that can make things tough… I’m left wanting to give anyone banging on health and fitness being a personal responsibility a good slap.

So why do this? Why review a weight-loss app? Because it looks like it’s going to be about how to have a healthier lifestyle, because it looks like it focuses on things like how to get better sleep, how to be less stressed… I’m hoping it has some stuff about eating better too and exercising more because I definitely need to be doing that stuff – to feel better, regardless of what the scales say.
… Talking of which. I have no idea what the scales say because the batteries have run out and because I need a screwdriver and a special kind of replacement battery to sort it. I guesstimated my weight when I signed up based on what I tend to weigh when I tend to look how I currently look. If my Gloji mentor (I’ve decided she’s called Wilma – I can’t remember what she’s actually called) wants me to report in with my weight at any time then I’m going to need to get busy with that screwdriver.

I’m also fairly new to WordPress since it got revamped. This is a PAGE and I’ll want to be creating pages and posts – posts are like a journal or a blog, whereas pages are more like ‘Hello I’m just a page’. All very technical!
My interview with my Gloji mentor is on Monday and I’ll come back to say more after that!
